soprano cicada sings a constant chorus
alto cicada chimes in a staccato rhythm
lightning bug zig zags here and there
heightening anticipation for the next glow
smell of recent cut grass lingers on,
one half-hearted bark from a distant dog
looming just over the evening horizon
the bright presence of a steadfast friend
